Family Portraits as Milo Turns One!

Family Portraits in Seoul, Milo Kim

Milo and his parents were back visiting Korea from France for his first birthday party. Before their family gathering, we decided to make some family portraits to memorialise their visit back to Seoul. These would be of just the immediate family. Being autumn, it was the perfect time to get out into Seoul and enjoy the warm weather for an afternoon. Milo was a happy and active little man with all the energy needed to get some great active pictures with his family.

For this session, we made use of the beautiful alleyways around Seochon in Seoul. This area is known for its eateries and hanbok rental shops, but the alleys are far more interesting. Despite their narrow nature, the streets are filled with plants, fermentation pots, decorative rock piles, and colours galore. All of these things make for a tight, but beautiful session. We spent the first half of our portrait session exploring these narrow streets and playing with everything in sight. Then we spilled out to the nearby Gyeongbokgung for a quick shot with the palace gates. Then it was over to a small hanbok for some final fun shots before wrapping up our session in just under an hour so Milo could attend his birthday party.

Milo is an active and happy young man, so we wanted to keep the session focused on that. To that end, we switched locations every couple of minutes and changed activities as often as we could. I had about ten locations planned before we got started, and Milo had knocked out five of those for us in the first ten minutes. He was all energy and smiles. Once we started walking hand in hand, he just wanted to explore all the alleys and that gave us plenty to work with. We stopped whenever we found something interesting and turned it into an opportunity before moving on. By the end of it, all the adults were worn out, but Milo was still ready to go and looked like he’d have plenty of energy for his first birthday party.

I hope you enjoy the photos from our session below. Please get in touch if you’re looking to have your own family portrait session in Seoul or elsewhere in Korea. It would be a pleasure to work with you in creating some beautiful memories of your time here. You can also check out my location guide and services guide for more details.
