Autumn Family Photos in Seoul with Sophie

Seoul Family Photos in Fall

Several years ago, during a certain world-changing event, I photographed the lovely Caitlin and Jay for their pre-wedding photos. I kept up with them on social media and even vicariously watched them get married. Then, I got a message saying that they’d be visiting again and had a little one, Sophie, in tow! It was very last minute, but I managed to squeeze them in for a shoot with the last of the autumn leaves.

On my side of the city, the leaves were completely gone by this stage and the world was looking decidedly wintry, but just 15 kilometres away, Peace Park still had some colour that we could make use of. This is a great spot because it’s usually quite quiet and has plenty of soft ground to keep our little people safe.

We kicked off our time together with a quick camera-aware portrait because you just never know if you’ll get that one later! The overcast day gave us the freedom to use any of the leaves in the whole park in any direction, so we found the brightest and most colourful area to get going.

Once that was in the bag, it was all hands on deck to keep the tiny Sophie on board long enough to make move around the park and get some variety. We tickled, we flew, and played inordinate amounts of peek-a-boo, but the little lady kept on keeping on. She even tried to stand for us with some help!

I always love to get a shot for each of the parents, especially with new parents, with their child and this time, it turned into all sorts of fun with a pit stop in the middle to have a bottle and keep going.

We ended the session with a tribute to her aunt, who had been a mentor and support to the new parents as they took their first international trip with a newborn.

What I Love about This Session

  • Meeting old friends! My business is very transient, so it’s always wonderful to see people more than once. Especially when they come with someone so cute on their team!
  • Late autumn colours. After the peak, autumn leaves take on a more subdued tone that brings a whole new feeling to the world.
  • Overcast day. Honestly, autumn is beautiful in all light, but an overcast day gives a depth to those colours that’s unmatched.
