Stephanie and John reached out way back in April as their young son was going to be celebrating his first birthday, and they wanted to get some family pictures in Seoul before the day and their summer break. Most of the children I work with are between 18 months and 5 years old, so this was going to be a challenge.
We met up for a cup of coffee a few days before our session to discuss locations and for me to meet Gibson for the first time. We got along right away, and I knew we’d have no problems at all with our session. The family and I went for a walk around their beautiful area of town and picked out a couple of locations that would work well in the morning light. We would be working around Gibson’s schedule, which meant we’d need to be done a little before 9am as that is his nap time. A few coffees would be needed on the way over. I am not a morning person at all.
We decided to use the campus of Yonsei University for the first half of our session, and then move over to the playground as Gibson started to wind down for his nap. I had checked the sun positions before our session. Fingers crossed, we’d actually get some sun. It was horribly hazy when I left home, but as I was coming up from the subway station for the session I wished I’d brought my sunglasses. It was going to be a lovely morning for photography.
Gibson was in a great mood and was having a fantastic time walking around in his Hanbok. In fact, it was tough to get him to stop! We worked quickly to get a lot of variety, knowing that Gibson may tire at any moment. But he just kept going and going. Being the cute little fellow he is, he’s quite well known around the town as well. That meant that we had a few passers by help us out with keeping his energy levels up. All in all, we had a great session.
