Young Family Portrait Photography at World Cup Park, Seoul

Many of the family portrait sessions I do here are centred around the idea of something traditionally Korean. We’re often trying to give the sense that we’re in Korea and Seoul’s palaces work wonderfully for that. But where do you go if you’re looking for something a bit simpler where the kids can run around and the pictures are just your family in a beautiful place? A great stop for both spring and autumn is the World Cup Park area in Seoul.

Angel and her family were visiting in May, one of the most beautiful months of the year here in Seoul. We’re finally out of winter’s grasp and the greens are fresh and lively. The air is warm but the humidity of summer hasn’t settled in yet. It’s the perfect time for a family photography session in nature here.

World Cup Park is a large area made up of several different parks. You can visit Haneul Park, Noeul Park, Peace Park, or even the new Oil Tank Culture Park. For this session, we used the avenues of trees at the base of the Haneul (Sky) Park hill and the fringes of Peace Park. This gave us access to some beautiful scenes with minimal walking. If you can make it early, this area is spectacular about an hour after sunrise. We were a little later than that on this day. But as you can see, it’s still a lovely place.

On to today’s session!

We started our session under the avenue of trees to get the girls warmed up for our photo shoot. Once we had a few photos of the whole family together, we started getting a little more active and focusing on some individual portraits. For the first half of the session, it’s great to make these sorts of images as the children are still energetic and open.

Once we’d made all of these, we shifted gears and headed over to the grassy field for some more active portraits of the children. We ran and danced our way across the hill towards our final location. We finished at a beautiful stone bridge over a small stream.
